About

About Us

Shawn Reckell formed R&R Builders around two specific pillars of business ethics: experience and care. With over 15 years under his belt installing standing seam roofs, you can rest well knowing that your project will be in the best of hands. Over the years, Shawn has found higher quality outcomes with the lowest overhead happen when the business owner is hands-on. Because of this, even though it is rare in the industry, Shawn manages all of the quotes and is on-site for every project. On top of this, Shawn has gone the extra mile and is one of the few certified installers in the region.

Shawn sources premium material from the two top suppliers, Englert and Drexel Metals – working with 24-gauge steel, generally considered more difficult to work with compared to the standard 26-gauge. At R&R Builders, quality is of the utmost importance, and we've found that 24-gauge steel will give your roof a significantly longer life in addition to a 150mph wind rating. A standing seam roof by R&R Builders will have a 50+ year lifespan.

We understand choosing a roof is a serious commitment, and want all of our clients to feel secure in their decision. We back our word and our work with an 8-year labor and 35-year color fade warranty.

WHY STANDING SEAM?

Why Standing Seam?

Durability

Standing seam roofs last 50+ years and hold up much better in harsher climates like we have here in Vermont.  This is 2-3 times longer than a traditional asphalt roof.  Furthermore, asphalt roofs look more and more deteriorated as they wear out.  Even if there is useful life left they may still detract from your homes curb appeal.

Eco-Friendly

Standing seam roofs are made of recycled and recycleable materials.  No need to add to landfills with these roofs unlike asphalt shingles that are hauled off by the dumpster full.

Energy Efficient

Standing seam metal roof panels reflect radiant heat from the sun.  This leads to lower cooling costs that saves money during those hot summer months.

There is no denying the stellar looks of a standing seam roof.  They stand out as the superior roofing option and enhance the curb appeal of your home.  Adding a standing seam roof will add value to your home over other options.  Standing seam comes in a wide variety of colors giving you plentiful options to suite your design aesthetic.

Lightweight

While a houses structure is capable of holding a great deal of weight, having a lighter weight roofing material reduces the load on the structure of your home.  This can be especially important here in Vermont where heavy snowfalls can overload a structure.

FAQ's

FAQ'S

1 / How much longer will a metal roof last?

You can’t get a more durable type of roofing at a reasonable price than standing seam.  Standing seam roofs are one of the most durable options thanks to the hidden fastener system.  Despite their lightweight, the concealed fasteners allow them to endure the extreme weather conditions we see here in Vermont.  The 9-layer enamel painting process is impervious to weather.  No rusting, coming loose, or leaking from these roofs.  Because of this, standing seam roofs will last 2-3 times the life of asphalt shingles lasting over 50 years when using 24 gauge steel and installed properly.

2 / Is a standing seam roof louder than other styles?

It is a common misconception that standing seam roofs sound louder than other roofing materials.  This simply is not true.  Standing seam roofs are typically installed over your insulated attic space on your roof deck with our underlayment.  This makes standing seam roofs no more noisy that the other materials on the market.

3 / How will a metal roof stand up to bad weather?

Here in Vermont we see all types of conditions.  Rain, hail, snow, sleet, wind, intense sun are all conditions that quickly wear away at the exterior of our homes.  The hidden fastener system of standing seam roofs protect against all of these elements making extreme weather a non-factor.

4 / Is a metal roof environmentally friendly?

Metal roofs are one of the most environmentally friendly roofing material choices.  Made from recycled and recycleable materials, these roofs keep the materials out of the landfill.  Furthermore, metal roofs in general reflect heat from the sun reducing energy needed to cool your home.

5 / What makes standing seam different than other metal roof types?

What makes standing seam unique is the hidden fastener system.  By hiding and protecting the fasteners, standing seam can better withstand the harsh elements Vermont has to offer.  The 9-layer enamel process used to paint the steel is much more resistant to corrosion making it far superior to corrugated steel roofs.

6 / Does a metal roof cost more?

The upfront costs of a standing seam roof are more than that of other popular roofing options.  This cost difference is quickly overcome by the long-term durability and eco-friendly benefits.  Standing seam roofs also add value to your home unlike an asphalt roof which simply maintains the home's value.

TESTIMONIALS

Marcus G. - Hinesburg, VT

"I had a leak around one of the skylights in my home.  I was interested in redoing the entire roof in standing seam and a friend said I should contact R & R Builders.  The owner Shawn was very professional, was very thorough in explaining the work that would be done, and gave me a very reasonable quote.  The crew was professional, courteous, quick and clean.  Highly Recommend!
